British Guys Want Swedish Girls!

We may have lost the football and the tennis, but British guys look set to score in the field of love with some of our European counterparts this year according to Match.com's summer love survey of more than 4,000 of its members across Europe.

It turns out that Swedish women would rather date a Brit than a man of any other nationality. Thirty nine per cent of Swedish women favoured British guys in the survey, even preferring them to hot-blooded and fiery Latin lovers from Southern Europe.

And the feeling was reciprocated. More one in three British men said they want to date Swedish women because they're better looking, take relationships seriously and are more 'open minded'.

Louise Raggett, psychologist and relationship adviser for Match.com, the world's largest online dating site says:

"This is good news for British guys in that it appears from the survey that they have a real chance with what many of them would see as their dream European woman. It seems that Swedish women believe that British men take their romantic relationships very seriously and are attracted by this."

"And we can understand why British guys are attracted to Nordic looks. Light hair was associated with being young and so, for evolutionary reasons beneath the level of conscious awareness, in choosing sexual partners, blonde was best for reproductive success."

For British women, the lure of an Italian stallion is high on their list of holiday romances. They believe they are better looking and know how to seduce and be seduced.

The mood for romance abroad is high amongst UK singles. 76% of British women would like a holiday romance this year - and 93% of British men would like to give them one!

Britain v Germany

We mutually turn each other off. 43% of Germans would never date a British person and the Brits feel the same with over 60% saying they would never date a German.

Britain v Spain

Although 28% of British people would love to date a Spaniard, the feeling isn't mutual. Thanks in part to behaviour by some Brits on package holidays, the Spanish would rather look elsewhere for their romantic liaisons. Only 12% of Spaniards say they would consider dating a Brit.

Britain v France

Entente cordiale? It's unlikely. There simply is no love lost between the two nationalities and the summer survey results appear to reflect years of Anglo/French history. Only 12% of French people say they would consider dating a Brit; and only 13% of Brits want cross-channel love.
